Itinerary

Day 1: Mt Macedon

Lunch, Dinner

Depart Melbourne at 9.30 a.m. and travel via the airport. Interstate travellers must be at Melbourne Airport by 9.30 a.m. to be picked up at 10.00 a.m. Visit the Mt Macedon region to see author Stephen Ryan’s Tugurium garden, with its emphasis on foliage and structural plants. Take a fabulous fresh ‘Potager to Plate’ cooking class and lunch at Woodend, sampling award-winning Victorian wines at Mt Macedon Winery. Tonight enjoy a gourmet dinner at Campaspe House, set on Edna Walling-designed gardens and bushland in Woodend.

Day 2: Garden of St Erth - Mt Sturgeon - Southern Grampians

Breakfast, Dinner

Visit the Garden of St Erth this morning. The two hectare garden is home to many of rare and unusual plants. Stroll the gardens then continue via Ballarat to the Southern Grampians. Visit the garden of Botanica founder Judy Vanrenen, Wiltshire, for afternoon tea. Explore the landscaped garden and grounds of the Royal Mail Hotel. See plantings in sympathy with the environment and unique Grampians vegetation, including many species of wildflower specific to the region.

Day 3: Hamilton - Grampians Sheep Dairy

Breakfast, Dinner

Taste cheese, yoghurt and other dairy products at the Grampians Sheep Dairy. Visit Hamilton Art Gallery, with its art, silver, ceramics and 18th century landscapes by Paul Sandby. On the way to Glenelg River Rosemary Farm, Australia’s largest rosemary farm, gaze at the ancient red gums. Glenelg River Rosemary Farm features more than 110,000 rosemary plants set over 16 hectares. The farm supplies fresh rosemary to supermarkets, dried rosemary to medicinal processors here and overseas, and essential oil of rosemary to aromatherapy and perfume makers. Take a tour the farm and learn about rosemary production and how it is exported.

Day 4: Western District Gardens - Geelong

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Visit Green Hills Garden with its impressive collection of roses and intricate borders surrounding the historic house. Continue to Noorat and the grand English garden of Dalvui, then on to the ‘dry and unusual’ garden of Wigandia, named by Gardening Australia as one of their favourite gardens. Stroll around the beautiful Geelong Botanic Gardens with its original English garden and the new ‘dry’ $2 million, 21st Century Garden.

Day 5: Mornington Peninsula - Heronswood

Breakfast, Lunch

Cruise across Port Phillip Bay to Sorrento and Heronswood, home of the Digger’s Club, for a delicious ‘Fork to Fork’ lunch and a personalised tour of the garden. Learn about edible plants and becoming more water-wise in plant use and design. Visit Garden Vineyard, then return to Melbourne. Continue to Melbourne Airport at 6.00 p.m. for flights departing after 6.30 p.m.
