Rotorua Christmas Escape 2011
4 days, 3 nights
Itinerary
Day 1: Saturday 24th December
Depart Kapiti 9.30am and drive north with a comfort stop at Bulls, before reaching the 'Gumboot Capital' Taihape for lunch, a 1 hour stop, then on to Taupo to see the 'Craters of the Moon'- a 30 min geothermal walk, a unique and memorable experience. Arrive at Rotorua and your hotel, the Sudima. The hotel has been chosen for its superior rooms, heated swimming pool and free spa pools. There is lovely food, and for your first night you will enjoy being entertained by a Maori party and Hangi with traditional food including the Kiwi Pavlova. The hot spas are open until 10pm so for those with the inclination, a spa before turning in for the night.
Day 2: Christmas Day- Sunday 25th December
Breakfast at the hotel before departing at 9.30am. We start with an orientation walk along the Lake Rotorua foreshore and the Government Gardens. We then drive down to the ancient Ohinemutu Village on the shores of Lake Rotorua, to view the beautiful hand-carved meeting house on the Marae and the stained glass window in St Faith's Church. Enjoy a beautiful scenic drive around some of Rotorua's lovely lakes. Christmas Lunch at the lakeside. Approx 2pm back to the hotel for a relaxing afternoon at the hotel or a trip to Rainbow Springs (own expense). Christmas DinnerA lovely Christmas buffet dinner with only the best NZ has to offer. Book in your free spa pool before bed.
Day 3: Boxing Day- Monday 26th December
Breakfast at hotel before departing at 9.30am for Tauranga. Our first call will be to visit the Comvita Visitor Centre at Te Puke, including a bee hive, honey products and tastings. Cafe and comfort stop. Then on to Tauranga and a short tiki tour ending up the Palm Beach Plaza for a comfort stop and a look at any Boxing Day bargains. Cafes and Restaurants are available. We next visit a local winery- Mills Reef Winery & Restaurant for wine sampling and lunch. Back in time for a relaxing spa at the hotel, or a visit to the Polynesian pools next door, or a last walk around Rotorua City 5 mins away.

Day 4: Tuesday 27th December
Breakfast at Hotel before 10am departure. We say farewell to Rotorua and head southward for home. At Taupo we stop at the famous Huka Falls, where millions of tonnes of water from Lake Taupo are funnelled through a notch in the rock with incredible force. We then stop for lunch at Taihape (own expense) before continuing homeward bound. We arrive in Kapiti approx 4.30pm.
